Engine mount extravaganza.

It was quite a chore getting the 4bt to mount up in the Dodge chassis. Dodge chose a crazy front suspension setup that essentially mounted the engine to the front axle. We made it work and if I may toot my own horn they are freaking awesome!!

We know there’s enough room for sure now!

The engine is in and the fabrication has been done on the engine mounts! It turns out that the front differential is mounted to the engine mounts on both side. As if that’s not crazy enough there is not enough room for the oil pan and the front axle bolted directly to the original engines bell housing! Holy moly, this is with out a doubt our most challenging fabrication challenge ever!

The math added up and we are moving forward!

I got the transfer case out and on the floor and as we expect it mated right up to the 47RH (a sigh of relief.)

Is that a front clip I see?

You’ve got it, I know that some of you thought this day would never come, but in fact the front clip is back on and secured in place. Now it’s time to take care of all those wires and hoses. With a new hired hand in the shop, ARG is moving at light speed!

Floor shift.

This Wagoneers came equipped with a not so stylish column shift transmission. In an attempt to bring in a little class with the vintage style, we added a factory spec floor shifter with center console. I am amazed at how sweet this looks and how well everything operates.

I was not Totally happy with the crossmember I had modified for this project. We finally broke down and just rebuilt it entirely! I am happy with the new and it gives a ton of clearance!

Disassembly is bliss

This day has been bliss, we are getting paid to take apart a perfectly good truck and make it better! We will be leaving the front clip on this one, due to the complexity of the wiring system. With a 3″ body lift there is plenty of room to get the job done.

Heater box mod.

While the 6 BT is a great choice, it creates a few minor clearance issues. Today we are modifying the heater box.

This may be the coolest diesel swap ever!

The plan:
Take a perfectly functional kick arse 2001 Dodge Dakota, 4X4, 3″ lift 35″ tires and make it unbelievable cool!

It will house a Cummins 4BT,
A 47RH transmission and
The factory electric shift transfer case!

Our goal is an inter-cooled diesel truck, capable of 27 MPG.

The need, is a vehicle that is able to tow light loads, and do some light off roading. It must be able to efficiently and reliably cruise all over the states, hauling camping gear and good friends through magnificent adventures.

Clean frames and a bolted in 12 valve spell bliss!

So bummed with the slow progress, I lost my best fabricator / mechanic mid project. The Texas heat has also slowed my efforts.

Despite the challenges we are pressing on, the new 12 valve engine Mounts are in and the crossmember is bolted up tight!

Next comes the heater box mod and front clip install. We are getting closer every week!
